i'm married, irish, a teacher-writer and a struggling follower of jesus christ.
well this is me. i'm shane magee married to the beautiful alli (we got married on 1/7/05 so it's all still very epic and exciting!) who's just finished a theology degree. i finished a masters in applied theology through the university of liverpool, (my undergraduate degree was in applied psychology way back in the olden days!) i am now a full-time fake devotee!
last year alli and i sold up everything we owned and traveled 33,000 miles through north america in a minivan. read all about it in the "planes, trains and minivans" section.
now we've made the move: we’ve settled in quispamsis, new brunswick, on the eastern coast of canada and have moved into our little house – beth-el – overlooking the stunning kennebacasis river. we've begun the complex process of becoming full canadian citizens (a three year process) and already feel very much at home and part of the community.
we are setting fake up as a charity in canada to afford me the freedom to pursue my passions – to teach (in universities and christian communities) and to write (both here on the site and also books and articles). it's a daunting juncture – a not-quite-there-yet moment – where many thing hang precariously in the balance and we need all the help we can get.
we are actively looking for rope holders – people who will commit to pray for fake on a regular basis and supporting us financially, while i jump over the edge. if you are interested in knowing more please email:
us at fakerepublic dot com.
also if you are interested in inviting me to teach your group you can read more about what that entails in the "what's fake all about?" category - particularly the "fancy a complete fakeover?" post.
i guess my main interests/foci/passions in life are evangelism and discipleship - evangelising the church and teaching/discipling the unchurched!
i love bible teaching and apologetics (talking into and out of the christian community) and trying to figure out this whole 'life' thing with the people around me. conversation is where it’s at – monologues, lectures and sermons are over-rated! i love finding out what makes people tick. i suppose for the last few years i've been trying to figure out how postmodern philosophy and thought impacts (or should impact) my faith.
books, books, books!! which is also reflected in my preoccupation with language and writing. i do tend to obsess unhealthily over finding the right adjective and will regularly re-edit a post days and days later simply to alter one word which no-one is ever going to read anyway! people - love finding out what makes different people tick. movies! how did we live before those beautiful moving pictures? alli and i have a serious addiction visitiing the cinema at least once a week for our fix! (see more in the cheap date section) photography - it's becoming a passion and a bit of an obsession. never go anywhere without my beautiful nikon d70. music - particularly ani difranco, radiohead, bob dylan, over the rhine, portishead, patty larkin... the list goes on and on. poetry - i've been very influenced by w.h. auden, charles baudelaire, arthur rimbaud, paul verlaine, luci shaw, thomas hardy, john donne and the other metaphysicals and a host of others. obviously, my own musings don't come close to scaling their lofty heights but they occupy the territory towards which i want to travel.
